In this guide, I'll show you how to create a custom shortcut using AutoHotkey (AHK) to open the Windows Terminal with a simple key combination.
What is AutoHotkey?
AutoHotkey is a powerful scripting language for Windows that allows you to automate repetitive tasks, create custom keyboard shortcuts, and more. With just a few lines of code, you can create scripts that save you time and effort.
Step 1: Install AutoHotkey
If you haven’t already, download and install AutoHotkey v2.0 from autohotkey.com.
Step 2: Create the Shortcut Script
After installing the autohotkey program, open it and create a new script. Then, paste the code from the Github repository into the script.
Step 3: Run the Script
Double-click the saved .ahk file to run it.
Now, use the following shortcuts:
Alt + X → Opens Windows Terminal
Ctrl + Alt + X → Opens Windows Terminal as Administrator (PowerShell)
Step 4: Make It Run on Startup
To ensure the script runs automatically every time you start your PC:
Press Win + R, type shell:startup, and hit Enter.
Copy your Terminal-Shortcut.ahk file into the opened folder.
Now, every time you log in, the shortcut keys will be available instantly!
